The Nepalese flag used to be two triangular flags flying above each other. It then merged into one flag.
Also the Swiss flag is square.

The cross is a square, This square can be fitted in a rectangular flag to follow common flag size. If it is used as a symbol then the square form is usually used.

The swiss flag is officially square and the nepal flag is officially that weird shape. There is no rule that says they have to be rectangular.

I think all flags are rectangular. Sometimes I think in books they draw them as being squares so that they fit the layout of the page better.

Square, they're quite chilled out the swiss, so I guess they don't bother making a fuss if someone lengthens their flag!!!!!!!!
