I am quite active and flexible; I have always been. I have just never had the money to take gymnastics classes. I am 17 and I do several sports and I want to take gymnastics, but I am not sure if I will do well. Please help me, or give me any advice you might have to get me on my way.

17 is getting too old to compete ( I started at almost 16). You can still learn though and it is definitely worth getting into. It is a very fun sport. I think you should go ahead and do it because if you don't, you are always going to wish that you did. Depending on how well you catch on, and how quickly you can train your body to do certain things, you might get into competition, but you might not. If you do, you will most likely never compete at a very high level. But then again, who needs competition to have fun right? :) Also, are you thinking about going to college? If you are, some colleges have intramural gymnastics where every one is welcome to compete and you compete within your own college. There are also some colleges that have 'club' gymnastics. It is just recreational gymnastics but people of all different levels are welcome.

Definitely take gymnastics while u have the chance. It helps that u are already flexible and involved in other sports too. You may be put with a lower level of people in gymnastics, but don't e discouraged. That is the onlyway to learn things. And I think you will have fun. Even of u r in a class of younger kids they will probably look up to u because u r older. Have fun! Good luck.

Your not too old. Just go in to your local gymnastics center or YMCA and ask about adult gymnastics. Maybe you'll get a program started. Some ways to help get these classes would be to start asking your friends if they know anyone that wants to join gymnastics, but thinks there too old, it'll help. Stretch everyday, practice your cartwheels, somersaults, and round-offs, with sticking -it. It'll Make classes easier.

You are not too old to try something you have always wanted to do.

If you are shorter than 5'8 then you should try.
The only problem with being older and a gymnast is flexibility and height....

Other than that, might as well try or you will never know!

You can always start and do it for fun, but at 17 you are probably too old to get good enough for olympic competition.
