Israel. Read Ezekiel 38 and Revelation to see the nations involved. You can see these nations in a crude alliance already, some 'mediating' in the Israel/middle east conflicts at present, including Russia (Gog and Magog – Meshech is widely-interpreted by scholars as Moscow) Iran, Syria and Egypt etc. The whole earth groans with birth pains for Christ’s returning - wars and rumours of wars are promised, as are famines, earthquakes etc. Even secular scientists say that there have been more earthquakes in the last 30 years than ever. The Bible even speaks of what appears to be nukes - eyes melting in sockets etc. These nations which are deceived, led and inspired by Satan to hate and invade Israel, will be destroyed by God, not those who defend her, verbally or otherwise. Their bodies will take seven months to dispose of, by men in full-time employment to do so, their weapons seven years to destroy. My late grandfather, himself a Christian (born-again), said that according to the Bible the population of carrion(dead flesh)-eating birds will vastly increase, and help clear up the remains. This prophesy, it is reported, is already coming true, as the carrion eating-birds of the specified region have lately, and otherwise inexplicably, exploded in population. (Ezekiel 38)

It is being fought now as an extension of all wars fought in the past 2000 years. Social dominance of the planent is a worldwide phenomena. You can't think of the final war in terms of a specific location. It invovles polical, social and corporate actions worldwide. Military conflicts are symptoms of abrupt changes in the equilbrium of the status quo of social domininance of the planent. At this time war is fought not only with bullets, but everything from ideas to cars to computers to toothpaste. This was will last as long as there are more than two people on the planent that are seeking so advantage over the other. Diplopmacy has to be up to the challenge of circumstances to make the process of this war less deadly/painfull for the average person living on earth.

The bible talks about the final war being fought some where in a valley in isreal when jesus finally comes to save us. It says that the devil will try to stop heavenly forces from taking human beings and other smaller entities will fight. That is how the last and final war will be except there is no actual date. it will only be a matter of time and all we can do is prepare ourselfs and merely wait.

There is a brilliant English writer (see source below), who teaches (or taught?) at Sandhurst (that's the UK's version of our West Point & Annapolis). His theories on war imply that "world" wars have become less likely through time. For one thing, they are just too expensive, there is way too much to be lost, and nations can accomplish the objectives in other ways. So we may have already priced ourselves out of warring on that scale.
And after all, we fight a war to impose our political will on an adversary.

The final world war is allready being fought. It is being fought in our backyards, our nation, and all around the world. The world war is the murders, rapes, drug abuse, etc..

If there were to be a "final world war" it would be a GLOBAL conflict because of nukes being hurled in all directions. I for one don't believe we're going that way however...We are slowly killing ourselves now without firing a nuke at all. How you ask? Look at how depleted our resources are becomming...Our populace continues to grow and our resources continue to be FINITE. We'll perish because we have destroyed the environment that sustains us...not by war...though war would certainly ease the pain of dying of dehydration from lack of drinking water.
