I have an oportunity to buy a second hand Ford Icon 12 km run car 2001 model costing 3.75 lakhs indian rupees, and maruthi suzuki swift VXi second hand 4.1 lakhs 10,000 Km run car with leather interiors 2005 model, If u are in my situation which one would u go for ? I feel that ford is better but im interested to know when it comes to spare parts which one is chaper ? what is ur openinon ,Indians please

If you are looking for performance and a "guy" car go for the Ford Ikon. The 2001 model was quite a success. It runs pretty well and handles better. But it's drawbacks still persist. It's parts are costlier than most Indian Cars and are sometimes hard to come by, if you are looking for original parts. Counterfeit parts are freely available but don't work much... And there has been news that the recently launched Ford Fiesta is likely to rule out the Ikon from the Indian Market. So, original parts and servicing will be a headache......
As far as the Swift goes, it is a somewhat replica of the Mini Cooper, not upto the mark Built, Good performance, fuel-economy, but lacks the "guy" appeal. Looks more like a "chic" car. Trust me.... A decent opinion. But the parts and servicing are no trouble at all. Cheap and freely available!
Verdict: As far as your points go for Spares, I think Swift is fit for you....

It depends on where in the state you are going to school. If you are going to a place like Upper Iowa, Clarke, Loras, Luther etc.. it would be helpful to get something with 4wheel drive. This will help you get up and down the hills and through the drifts if you need to travel some for work. It really doesn't make much difference if you will be attending Drake, ISU, or UI. Take the main roads. If you will be going to UI I would not even bother worrying about driving to campus each day. Costs too much and is a pain to get around( main campus) in winter. It is best to just use Cambus like all the other students.

If I am in your situation I would go for IKON, b'coz the mileage offered by swift can be easily attained in a midsize car. I think there wont be much difference in spares.

ford ikon is tried and tested.. spares are okay but mileage is poor...
where as swift is the best car launched my maruti ever!!!
swift commands a lot of respect...
it's very stable even in high speeds..
it's worth the amount you pay.....swift dude...

ford parts are easier to come by than foriegn parts so it is probably best to stick with the ford.
