Ebay is great. I've never been stung, but I'm always a little wary.
Like everything else in life - if it looks to good to be true, then it IS to good to be true.
Make sure you can't get what you want cheaper somewhere else, and don't get drawn in by "L@@K" in the description, or *RARE* - as the stuff hardly ever is.
Some people even buy stuff new and try to sell at a straight profit. Lego sets still in production seem to suffer this fate, with sets selling at a 30% mark-up on Ebay. I mean, Why?
There are a few scams "Genuine PS2 box for sale" - note Box for sale, not "Playstation IN box" springs to mind. Always check for hidden extras (Paypal Charges, Mandatory Insurance charges that are listed at the end of the description, not as part of the price or postage costs - ok, so I fell for that one THIS MORNING, but I still got a good deal, nevertheless - just not as good as I thought!)
Whats with these auctions that mean you can buy something for 1p but have to pay £20.00p&p from Hong Kong or something? Anyone got a good answer for that?

I have had some good bargains off of eBay, but there are some dodgy sellers too, so beware when bying. Look at their feedback score and read some of the comments that have been left, especially the negative ones if there are some.
However, not everything on there is such a good bargain, just decide what you want before you go looking on there, shop around on the internet for the best prices, and then go on eBay to compare the cost with your best price.
Always add the delivery charges to the bid price too, some people rip you off as the delivery charges add to your cost and are usually a 'must pay'. Most of the time the delivery charges are over charged, just so the seller can make that little bit extra from you.
If there isn't much between the price on eBay and the price of a known shop (online shop), then I'd go with the known shop because of the returns policy if there is a fault etc. - peace of mind.

I don't think it's any more a con than buying something out of the newspaper. You have no way of knowing there how reliable the seller is or whether the product is as described, at least with eBay you have the feedback telling you how good the seller is.
People have a tendency to look down on something if it's on the internet because any on there is immediately thought of as being dodgy in some respect.
Personally, I've never had any problems with buying or selling anything on eBay. I've got some great bargains, I've managed to find things there that I would never have found anywhere else and I've also managed to get rid of some things that I'd not be able to sell anywhere else.

I have had some good bargains from E-bay but I have also been ripped off too !
I bought some gift vouchers once and the seller cashed my cheque but never sent me the vouchers. I did successfully claim from him but by the time the P&P was taken off my claim together with the £15 admin fee E-bay charge for dealing with the claim, I still lost out on the deal. Also, it took months for the claim to be settled and for me to get part of my money back.
As I said, I have had some good bargains but you have to be careful. The man who was 'selling' the vouchers was a new seller with only a few feedback ratings - I won't fall for that one again !!
Now, I only buy from people who have lots of feedback ratings and 100%, or a very high percentage rating. Also, where possible, I collect the item and pay cash on collection.

Selling on ebay is great value as long as you know how to work the system.,
As for buying it depends how much you know. Ive seen computer parts being sold for £40 more than you can buy them for places like ebuyer.com or dabs.com. Some people see the ad saying "RRP of £100 but you get it for £80" and belive it.
Never assume that your getting it cheap just because its ebay. You can endu p paying over the odds. Sony PSP games for example are £40 in the shops, £30 online and £40 on ebay (after postage)

eBay is one of the most legit places on the internet. Sure you run into some scam artists, but if you keep an eye on the feedback, you should be fine. I don't deal with anyone with a score of less than 95%, unless it's something I'm just dying to have, and their score is like 25,000 or higher :) .... I've also sold many things and made great deals. I think it's brilliant... wish I had thought of it! I'd be rich.

No, I don't believe it is. It has allowed me to find movies I've always wanted for unbelievable prices. And on Ebay, you can find that one thing you can't find in a store. You can also find movies that are no longer being sold, rare items, or just about anything you want. I got a movie for $6.50 total, and the lady that sold it to me was very nice! Some people are wary of it, and it's a good thing to keep your guard up, but most of the sellers are honest. But like they say, look at their feedback and read the auction. If it sounds like a scam, don't do it.

When selling I think when you start using paypal its a bit of a con. Cos you pay ebay to list your stuff, then if you want to accept paypal, they also charge you (paypal owned by ebay). I found that most people wont bid either if you dont accept paypal.
As a buyier is a bit better, as long as you check feedback etc etc, but you can only pay for £500 of stuff before you need to paypal verified, which then costs you money.

It has it's pros and cons. I've bought a lot of second hand CDs, DVDs, books and toys, and was pleased with everything I bought and the price I paid - it is very good for things that aren't easy to get a hold of. But the with one crook I dealt with, who never sent me the DVD I paid for, Paypal wouldn't refund me because he had no money left in his account. But it definitely pays to avoid people with ratings less than 99%. My biggest problem with eBay is that they charge you too much money for items you failed to sell, and this has put me off selling any more things on their website.

You have to watch what you are buying, I have sold things for more than i paid for them!
That's my entrepreneurial skills. Ebay isn't a con, some of the sellers may be!
Only go for sellers with 100% satisfaction
