(Portulaca grandiflora)

Beautiful 1" to 2" rose-like, double, brilliantly colored flowers in red, cerise, rose pink, orange, yellow and white. Portulaca does best in hot locations and climates. They look great in hanging baskets, rock gardens, and areas with reflected heat such as parking strips. The low-growing plants make a wonderful groundcover. Very drought tolerant - water only occasionally. Reseeds readily.

they are great for full sun and wind abuse. We had them growing outside of a warehouse I used to work at that had nothing but parking lot and sun and tons of wind to live with, but they were gorgeous! We just had to deal with the fact that any little "leaves" that were blown off would make them sprout up in the cracks in the sidewalks/parking lot. And they re-seed themselves kind of too. Try a nursery site and I think it's spelled portulaca. We used to call them moss roses.
