Silence in Berlin...?

This article was taken from an Italian Sport newspaper called "La Sgurgola Sportiva" dated July5,2006.

JOHN DOE RETURNS TO BERLIN.

John Doe was an american soldier in 1945.He participated in the invasion of Berlin,after 61 years he returns to a quite Berlin,he quotes: "I remember well the day that we invaded Berlin,the Germans were very sad,quite and depressed.I came back after 61 years and I find the same picture,the Germans are still sad,quite and depressed.I asked myself is it possible that after so many years they still haven't forgotten that day we invaded them.So I started asking around why they were so quite,sad and depressed.One answered me "It's the Italians." I told him "What are you talking about,the Italians were your allies.It's us that invaded you."
This proves to this day that Americans still do not know anything about football or do they?

This story is a bunch of crock-And you are foolish just to believe in such a story. I hope who ever got a kick out it realize that they are the pompous dumb a@@-like what they are trying to make Americans seem like. Never mind the fact that you have to take a major leap of faith that this guy went to Germany and had no idea of there was a worldwide event going on or that Germany's loss wasn't big enough news in Berlin for him to notice. But in fact yesterday was our independence day-And the likelihood that a WW2 vet (the people who plan and put on most of the venues) would pass up honoring the holiday or celebrate it away from home and in ( of all places) Berlin is pretty ridiculous!
Before I didn't care who won I just wanted to see good games but with the lack of character this would take -Italy deserves nothing less than to get wiped off the field like a crap stain. And I encourage Americans to join me in cheering that their opponents do just that..

Wow. This article, whether true or not, is criticizing a guy who fought in World War II? Someone who was probably born in the 1920s? Can you really blame the guy for being focused on his own life events instead of a football game? If you want to pick on the US for not knowing anything about soccer, pick on the TV stations who don't cover the live matches. Pick on the schools for their focus on American football. Pick on me, despite the fact that I do enjoy soccer and wish I were a better player. Call me stupid, ignorant, and uneducated. That's fine.

But please, leave our WW2 veteran out of it. It's not a fair argument, it's a dirty one.

Americans know nothing about European football and the passion that is involved and rightfully so. Kind of weird that the guy is that ignorant that he went back to Germany during the World Cup and didn't know what was going on.

Why are people all over the world so preoccupied about Americans not knowing/not caring about football( soccer for us)? Mostly don't, but many of us do. Live with that. We don't worry about many countries in the world who don't like baseball.
