You really can not age a Hermit Crab. They molt in order to grow.. BUT even their size does not determine how old they are.

Here is why...

A healthy crab will molt more often than a un-healthy or stressed Land Hermit Crab.

You have 2 Hermies side by side.. A big jumbo one and a smaller one. The big one is 5 years old and the smaller one is 7 years old. WHY?????

Because the smaller one had a hard and stressful life... he maybe was mistreated, lived in a less than perfect tank.. was fed poor food and maybe had been injured several times.

The big Jumbo guy ate well, his tank had perfect conditions and he was not stressed, not miss handled and never injured.

So in closing you really can not tell 100% how old a crab is... they grow with each molt and molt more often when healthy and happy.... but their actual growth still depends on their habitat and environmental conditions.

Hermit crabs won't die without salt water till they are saltwater crabs. I fairly supply mine baths till it is warm out! you do no longer might desire to sponge bathe them. I purely top off a field with water some million centimeter of water and enable them to pass in it yet no longer for too long. purely approximately 3 minutes.

well, when they are first born, you mark it on your calander, and then you will always know how old they are.
