I'm planning to relocate to Boston in the future.......And the rent that I see being asked for is incredible.

The short answer is "no". I've lived here for years, and the housing costs are absurd. To live here, if you don't have a lot of money, you will have to learn to go without many things that you could have in other places.

Affordability is a relative term. Wages tend to by quite a bit higher in the Boston area so what is affordable there would be extremely overpriced in a small Midwest town. The effective minumum wage in the Boston area is around $10.00/hr. This isn't a legal minumum wage, but jobs offering much less tend to go unfilled.

In the Northeast there is no such thing as "affordable" anymore
and, if there is, make sure you see what kind of neighborhood it's in
