There's a couple of ways to figure out if it's for you...take a class or audition.

You won't know until you try a class. Take an acting class for a semester before you declare. This is something actors do THROUGHOUT a career, attend class.

Auditioning is a "sink or swim" kind of experience. You do a monologue or a reading and they either cast you or not.

There are sometimes "workshops" for actors given by largely unknown, out of work actors. Steer clear unless it's free or given by someone well known and respected.

If you have the "bug" you will continue. If you don't you will tire of "theater" and actors quickly. Good luck...

Acting comes from INSIDE.

If you start looking towards others to EITHER boost you or shoot you down....how can you be a good actress???

You DID say a "minor" in theater, right??

Well, what can THAT harm??

Your MAJOR is the most important decision and one that may change during your college career.

Here are some things that THEATER can help you with:

colors, costuming, lighting, electrical, management of people and time and marketing and monies and budgets, public speaking, singing, musicianship, writing, song-writing, editing, computer skills, all types of janitorial issues, make-up, hair, stunts, props, leasing and booking and rental and transportation issues, accounting, PR work, photography, photoshop, sound and acoustics and recording and production, creative writing, history, music appreciation, biography, pop-culture, social-political criticism, ....... do I have enough time and space to write it ALLLLLL down??

Do you want to LEARN something??

Then PLEASE start with something you think you'll LIKE.

You can learn about the theater.....forever.

OR, anything ELSE, for that matter.

Well if you're going to a liberal arts college (a full range of required classes in all fields) it says more to your abilities than, say, an arts/performing arts school that may not require those core classes. I say take your liberal arts requirements, dabble in the theater classes and let the grades determine where you go. I have a bachelor of science in psychology, which in and of itself is useless to most employers, but the fact that I took a well rounded catalog of courses and did well in them is more of an asset than knowing how the brain works.

I have a friend with a major in business and a minor in theatre and is planning to work the business side of theatre and that is a great goal because he knows something about it

while it would be a good thing to test your level of acting skill at this moment it doesn't mean you can't improve even if you aren't up to the task at the moment....

you aren't crazy to follow your dreams, you are only crazy if you don't... you only live once, and this is your chance!!!

go for it baby..
