Unfortunately, there isn't much you can do until he realizes that he truly has a problem. I am assuming he has been hospitalized a few times for detox (medical). It is usually at this point, before they are discharged from the hospital but after that have been detoxed, that interventions are most effective. Have you tried a group intervention, such as a family meeting? Sometimes talking can be more effective when the person sees that all are in agreement.
How old are you anyways???

Unfortunately there is nothing you can do for you dad. But there is something you can do for yourself. Call Alcoholics Anonymous and ask them for help. It won't cost you anything. Children are affected by the behavior of their alcoholic parents. There are many others in the same situation as you and can help you. Please don't wait and call today. Good luck!

Ask him if his "affairs" are in order. If he says yes, leave him be. If he says no, offer to take him to the local funeral home so he can pre-plan his funeral and then to the lawyer to make out a will. That might sober him up a bit.
In the meantime, take care of yourself, and don't let history repeat itself in YOUR life.
Blessings,
Pam

Trouble is, you can't do anything if your dad doesn't want to be helped. You probably gotta prepare for the worst.

anyone whose life has been affected by an alcoholic will tell you, they have to stop themseves. all your begging and pleading will do no good. Enjoy what life is left, if that is possible.

All you can do is tell him how his actions make you feel and that you love him and don't want to lose him.
He is an adult and you can't make him stop, but maybe if you tell him how you feel he will change.
