If the borders were going to be "closed up", they should've done it 30 years ago...These people are now part of us,members of our families in some instances, and they have come over here as our friends.

I live close enough to the border that I can see it. If it is at all out of control, it doesn't look that way from here. I think immigration has been brought up as an "issue" by the Republicans and their puppets in the news media as a political distraction to keep people from thinking about Mr. Bush's failures and incompetence, the impending devaluation of the currency, the national bankruptcy and massive debt to Communist China, the pointless war, the neglect of the Gulf Coast after Katrina, and the looting of the economy by Halliburton and other well connected cons. In my neighborhood the Republicans b it ch endlessly about Mexicans then when they want any work done they hire Mexicans as fast as they can. It'd be nice to see a little logic and consistency for once.

I think the problem with illegal immigration is they become a drain on the economy. Someone ends up being responsible for them if they become sick, etc. Obviously, there is a reason they feel the need to leave their home country, but, I don't believe they should be just permitted to continue coming in. If they can't go through the legal ropes, then they should stay where they are. They are breaking the law by coming illegally, so that is a pretty poor way to begin your new life in your new country. I agree with Bush in stopping it now, it should have been done years ago (like 50 years ago). Canada has the same problem with boatloads of Asians sneaking in. They need to be sent back immediately.

I don't agree with bush closing the border. I understand that we have immigration laws and everything, but it's mostly illegal immigrants that are running the country. My father is an construction worker and he's working two jobs right now. One won't allow illegal immigrants to work while the other will. The one that doesn't allow illegal immigrants is months behind because they can't get no one to work.
I think that Bush should make it easier for the immigrants to become citizens.

I don't agree with much about Bush, but I do agree with closing the border and stopping illegal immigration.
Our country was built on immigration, but not on ILLEGAL immigration. If people want to come to this country, there is a process where they can do so legally.

I think Bush doesn't know his a$$ from a hole in the ground. Yes, I also think this country was built on immigration and it should be open to all who want to enter. However, remember immigrants were admitted legally...at Ellis Island. There just should be a better system of entering at the Mexican border; application, background checks, and such. Not with military force.

illegal immigration isn'T only about hispanics! the news only talks about countries down south like mexico...they never talk about the illegals that cross the Atlantic ocean, and come in through New York, or the illegals that come in from CAnada, those are borders too!
i think Bush is really hated right now... even with putting so much security and troops and stuff near the Mexican border, my people ARE still going to find some way to get around it...and remember, i'ts not only Mexicans coming over, but also guatemalans and other countries down south.
but then again i kind of agree with closing up the borders for their safety. because it's not only men coming across the border to get to the US, but women also. they pay coyotes to sneak them in, right? and when these women are trying to cross over, some of these coyotes rape them and beat them just because they feel like it. they're risking their lives coming over and i hate to see them die. say the borders do close, the coyotes will be out of a job and then there wouldn't be any rapes or beatings on the people, trying to cross over.
the whole immigration topic is very complicated i think. and it's hard for me to chose which side i'm on because i'm mexican-american..i love my mekican people though...they're very hard working and i'm glad to see that when they are here in the US, they're not sitting on the streets asking for money...they're on their feet working their a$$'s off to help out their families.

~*~the key here people is IMMIGRATION REFORM.. let's make it possible for the people who are willing to work here and be law abiding citizens do so... you all are talking about ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION but when are we going to start taking care of the real problem.. lets make it possible for those who want a better life to work here legally.. starting with a visa for a year.. if they do everything right and follow all of the guidelines they can extend it to 2 yrs and so forth.. there used to be a bracero program back in the 1940's -1950's.. for mexican laborers to work here in Agriculture.. they would come here work for a certain time and go back to Mexico to be with their families.. Maybe we should try that. I think that by creating some sort of a program or reform Illegal immigration would decrease dramatically... Maybe by doing this they can earn money save it up and somehow build businesses in mexico so that they can support their families.. There are more answers to stopping illegal immigration than closing the border.. but.....If you all really want to close the border .. go ahead.. they will find someway around it.. somehow they are going to get in here to work.. STOP TALKING ABOUT ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION... START TALKING ABOUT IMMIGRATION REFORM... ~*~

I think the key word here is "illegal". There are no movements, by Bush or anyone else, to stop immigration. Immigrants are free to LEGALLY come here under our current laws and this should never change as our immigrants are one of our great strengths. People seem a bit confused about it all .. your question seems to state that Bush wants to stop immigration .. no such thing is true. In the U.S. we tend to try and stop ALL illegal things .... it is called society. If you come here illegally you are a criminal under our current laws. We don't need more criminals, but legal immigrants are just fine.

Illegal immigrants should all be shot. They're just trying to get overe here and work for money under the table that doesn't get taxed meaning that OUR taxes go up because some other jackhole is living in our country, using the things WE pay for through our hard work, while they bring home every dime of what they worked for.

I feel that if you want to live in the US than you need to become a US citizen and learn our language. I think that Bush is doing the right thing and making sure that the illegals are deported. Illegal means you are not allowed to do it; meaning they are breaking our laws; meaning that if we don't enforce our laws why have them.
