SSI and Social Security are two different programs, but they are both managed through the Social Security Administration. Is your husband trying to get SSI, Social Security (retirement, disability, survivors) or both? You should call the SSA at 1-800-772-1213 and set up an appointment to meet with someone at your local SSA office to talk to them about your husband's case. I would not try to work it out through the number I just gave you though as the people at that number often make the problem worse, I know this from experience, but you can at least call that number to make an in office appointment. It is important that you know what program your husband applied for as it makes a difference as to which type of worker you will meet with at the SSA. Their could be many reasons why he is not getting retirement. Maybe he does not have enough work credits, maybe the SSA has an incorrect address, maybe their is a problem with his name or date of birth on his record. If he is trying to get SSI he would not have to worry about having enough work credits, as the ssi payment is not based on how much you paid into the system. SSI is a program that is based on financial need, but they won't pay out for similar reasons. The SSA sometimes moves excruciating slow, but the best and quickest way to take care of this is to go to your local office and have a face to face meeting. Your husband should bring ID and his birth certificate as well. Good luck.
