Everyday I see people around campus on their uniform. I can spot in one day at least 7 people with the same T-shirt I saw at GAP the day before. I can spot like 12 people with the same Abercrombie T-shirt. I can spot everyone wearing the same shirts from Banana Republic. Everyone's wearing the same stuff from Express. I'm on the swim team, but I actually hate dressing up in sport clothes, but that's just about the same. Guys wear the same pair of tennis shoes, the same basketball jerseys.

Shouldn't we might as well wear a uniform to college?

well if you saw the same shirt at the Gap or Ambercrombie like you said, that means you shop there and you're a hypocrite.

yes you might as well. as much as our culture cries out for new and unique we don't seek it out. it's all a popularity contest. people go out of town and shop at malls instead of boutiques, (wrongly) assuming that it's cheaper. in actuality, you'll find similar costs and sales. the difference is the look. our culture doesn't truely want to stand out by wearing a garment with a zipper in an odd location on the shirt. look at starbucks! everyone has this at home and will seek it out for the uniformity rather than try a small locally owned shop that also has coffee and scones maybe even homemade and better.

Ok, so mine's a little far-out. :) But really, there's LOTS of other places to get your clothes. But people have this innane desire to have the lastest thing, be part of the crowd. Nothing that we can do about it.

Until then, I shall continue to wear Lane Bryant pants with a top that was on sale at K-Mart! ^_^

I agree with you 100%. Blame it on media and capitalism. Advertisement hypes brand names to be the best, then fashion Nazis, trend setters, and celebrities jump on the bandwagon (usually for their own personal gain). The result is every sheep that is easily influenced by media is advertising for the brand name, wearing t-shirts and ripped jeans at prices over inflated 20 times. Funny isn't it?

Eww I hate GAP. Abercrombie is alright. I like Calvin Klein better though. That's like my favorite store.

This is an observation made many times before by many people. Its nothing new. It won't be changed until the next fad comes along.
