Germany should have won for sure! I was sad along with the rest of the country last night! :(

Italy had that game from the start. They had more control of the game early, fewer fouls by the stats I saw, and their defense record this tournament indicates that the only one who can beat the Italian keeper is on the Italian team.
The Germans put in a good show, and on any other match day, they could well have taken this win. A couple of good chances in the second, but they just couldn't bring it home.
The Italians scored two great, well-timed goals to close out OT. Say what you like at the Azzurri, those goals earned them the win.
Germany is, by World Cup 2006 rankings, third or fourth best. Better luck in 2010.
And saying the host country deserves to win simply because they are host sends a dangerous message--why would the other teams even show up if the winner was predetermined? Unless you're referring to their unbeaten streak at the stadium, in which case, all I can say is "change is inevitable."

Ah, there's a football genius amongst us. What joy.
There's no point in repeating all the results/statistics others have posted here since they speak for themselves. But, I would like to add one thing: you assume that football is all to do with the players on the pitch. You are wrong. It is centred on and FOR the fans, the real fans. Plus, if you are a real fan of the sport (and I would say from your narrow-minded comments, you are not), then you would know it is the spirit that lives in the hearts of REAL fans that help teams achieve their victories.
I hope you are NOT indicative of the opinion of those in/supporting Germany who are interested in this sport, because, if you and your bitter and pointless complaining are anything to go by, fans in Germany will never again know what it is to see your national team beating the cup favourites on their home territory and making it to the final of the World Cup.
Final point: I am an Irishman, and my national team never qualifies for the World Cup (we are only 4 million people, so, this is not a surprise), but I am married to an Italian. The country of Italy has suffered greatly these past 6 years or so (and if you do not know what I am talking about, shame on you!), and I recall saying to my wife before the competition began. 'I wish for Italy or Argentina to win, because, after all their sufferings, their countries deserve something good to happen'.
Last night, the streets all around our house (we live near the Swiss/Italian border) were full of wonderful people, embracing, kissing, shouting with joy until 2am. The first really good thing to happen to this country for years and years. I ask only this of you my friend, please do not let your inability to deal with your own losses take away from this joy.
I wish you well.

yea you must be drunk...cuz Argentina should of beat Germany but Lehman stepped up and Italy was the better team yesterday because Germany gave up at the end and Italy pushed until they scored. So because the tourney was in Japan/S. Korea in 2002, should one of those teams have won??

i agree with you. they played better and italy probs bought the ref. but im trying to get over it. in 2 yrs theres the EC, and after another 2 yrs another WC. And all the players r so young they will be allowed to play then, with a lot more training behind them. Then they surely WILL win. Many other teams have players for who this was their last cup, becoz they will be too old for the nxt one. So Germany has a very big chance the nxt times.
And they can still get 3rd. OUT OF 32!!! (that is still REALLY good for such a young team)

I don't think. Italy played very good and played each match properly. Their match against Australia was a bit nervous & tensed still beating Germany in Germany is like beating Australia in Australia in Cricket.
