Because all the pieces have finally come together at once.

For the past 20 years, they would have great hitting (think Cecil Fielder's 40+ run year early in the '90s) but no pitching. Or great pitching (Todd Jones' 40+ saves in 2000) but no run support.

Now they have a pitching staff marked by hot, young aces and bankable veterans - plus position players who can hit not only the long ball, but know how to run the bases and advance runners. When they're in the ninth with two out and a man on, they're no longer depending on a walk-off home run, they're trying for a double or a triple to get the runner in and keep playing.

Jim Leyland is just the kind of manager the team needed. He knows his baseball, but he trusts his players to know theirs and keeps a happy locker room.

Dave Dombrowski.

He took over as president in 2001.

One of his first best moves was to fire Randy Smith as GM in 2002. He then took over the GM duties as well.

Since then he has made several good trades and has stocked our farm system.

Another really great move was the hiring of Jim Leyland.

JIm Leyland has got this Tigers team playing like a Major League team and he has them believeing in themselves.

Jim Leyland was the manager of the 1997 Florida Marlins when they won The WORLD Series & Dave Dombrowski was the GM.

So I am hoping that history repeats itself.

David Dombrowski is DA MAN!!!

*sounds like J-Far is jealous*

Basically right now almost everyone on the Tigers is having a career year. If they can continue it they will be in good shape, but the baseball season is long and things usually shake out after awhile.

not to take away from what the tigers have accomplished this year, but they are 3-10 against the white sox, the red sox and the yankees, until they can beat these 3 teams on a consisent basis, i don't really think you can considered them great.

If they're so great how come the sox are right on they're tails.
Its only a matter of time to see who will F-up first.

Im pretty sure it'l be detroit though. They won't be able to handle the second half pressure.

Their great because if they loose a game their manager yells at them and the media until he looses his voice. It's kind of that scared straight theory. Plus I suppose their players are good too, they have the 2nd best catcher in baseball.

Four stud young pitchers, a strong bullpen and a lineup that puts the ball in play. Can't ask for more.
