I have a PC about 10 years old consisting of; Cyrix 166+ Processor, Motherboard, 2D Graphics Card, Voodoo 2 Graphics Card, 48Mb EDO RAM, Metal Tower Case, 104 key AT/XT (non P/S2) Keyboard. What would be an environmental way to dispose of this, other than landfill? They do not meet Computer Aid's minimum standards for donation.

Phone your local refuge department and they can advise you on how to dispose of it safely.

Just because it doesn't reach Computer Aids minimum standard doesn't mean some other charity wouldn't want it. Try Oxfam and if not, is there a freecycle for you area? (www.freecycle.org) They try to pass on old stuff that would otherwise go into a landfill to people who will reuse it. What is more the person recieving it wil pick it up, saving you a trip.

Your close by council likely run a refuse centre (promote off) that would want to recycle pcs, television, refrigerators, cooking oil, scrap metals, timber, significant different and toddlers garbage and an finished host of stuff. verify their website. in case you ask the council to attempt this, they are going to cost you. you could also locate recycle centres in vehicle parks, supermarkets and buying retail parks the position you could remove glass, cans and garments. those often have a small electric powered merchandise recycle station. Do you've a pal who drives? it will be priceless amassing up all of your products and paying a pal to take them to the promote off for you

You might want to check with your local school or library or something. They might want it. Make sur you delete all information on it first!
Check with Best Buy's Geek Squad, too. Maybe they know of somewhere you could get rid of it and maybe even make a buck.

It seems everyone else just puts a Network card in it and sells it on Ebay as 'Broadband ready'

Don't forget to get the gold out of it before you throw it away. I bet you could call a computer repair place and ask them where you could get rid of it.

If you can't donate it, some cities have special recycling programs for computers.

give it to me (i wish... :( ), give it to a thrift store (Like Goodwill or Value Village), or sell it at a used computer store (I think there's several stores that do this, but re-pc is the only place I know of)

If you wrap it in tissue and place it under your pillow, the PC fairy will take it away and leave you a shiny coin!
