sounds like a loose or broken wire on the tank sender.

An educated guess would say you have a faulty voltage stabiliser at the back of the instrument cluster.

it is not the gage
its the sending unit in the tank
some people who answer this stuff don't know what there talking about

your gauge is broken you have what they call a floating needle
