Good question. I always smile when I see a product advertised as 'new and improved'. How can that be? If it's new, it's new. Improvements only come later. Of course to answer your question improvements are better ways of making existing things. Think about, for example, a frying pan (Skillet to you Yanks). Originally they were made of cast iron but the handle burned your hand. They added a wooden handle and it was improved. Then they discovered that aluminium would work better so they improved it again. Then in 1969 they discovered PTFE (Poly-tetra-fluero-ethylene) and, guess what ... non stick coatings. All of these improvements came as our requirements for a better pan were fulfilled and allowing for knowledge, materials and technology available at the time.

Everyone wants to improve the improvement till it improves even the improvement and then stop if they can not improve it.

Because sometimes the improvement is only visible after we have made the first improvement.
