Defragment.........upgrade RAM

2006-07-05 02:55:57 · answer #1 · answered by X P 3 · 0 2

I'm using a P1 with 64 MB RAM
and it works just fine

Also a P4 with 512 MB RAM
works fine too

for P1 operating system is Win 98
for P4 operating system is Win XP

check out what's u'r os
u'll do fine with win 98 or win me
if yes, then scandisk/disk clean/defragment
still slow, then maybe u gotta check ... registry, virus or similar

by the way, i also gotta operate an industrial pc thats a 486dx2, meaning a clock speed of 66 mhz, it has 8 mb ram and works great; os is win 3.11

so u gotta check u'r os too, guess u should be well off with win 98 or win me. that's perfectly fine.
the higher the os the more demanding it is, the more resources it would need.

I would need to know what you find too slow first. If your surfing the Internet is to slow then a faster connection will help.

If the computer slows as you open programs then adding memory will help. Go to 1Gb if you can.

If you are doing graphics or audio processing and it takes a long time then you probably need to buy a new computer.

Hope this helps

You can upgrade the system or you can add more memory. A P3 system is getting rather old now. Good Luck!

You should cleanup your disk ,defrag and scan for smooth operating. You can also add memory.Virus checking is also a option. If these are not solve your problem then try to reinstall windows.
If you used to use P4 then it is natural to seem P3 slow.

Your pc won't and can't run without RAM. each unmarried application your pc runs and each command you coach the pc to take area in has to pass via the RAM.

yes
if your windows (or linux or..) is instaled more than 2 month I recomment reinstall it.

windows and linux has a problem that if be long time in use they will go weak in power and speedy.

if you have a soft that only that is low speed:
- if it use much memory >> you must upgrade your hardware
- if not >> reinstall this soft too and check it repeatly.

goodluck
