DVD+R A recordable DVD format similar to CD-R in that it is a write-once medium. Backed by Sony, Philips, Yamaha, HP, and others.
Often called "plus R", the format is write once (compared to DVD+RW which can be erased and rewritten). The single sided discs can hold 4,700,000,000 bytes (4.38 Gigabytes at 1024 bytes to the kilobyte) with double sided discs holding twice as much. There are no dual layer single sided recordable discs. This format competes with the DVD Forum DVD-R specification. DVDR help DVDR information.

DVD + and - R are just two different formats. DVD-R will be more compatable with older DVD players, although both are good for the most part. DVD + R are cheaper to make the drives, and this enables companies like Dell to say, "get this computer with a DVD burner" and save a few bucks at the same time. I pretty much only use DVD-R, because it has worked for everything that I need it too.

They are two different language DVDs. You need a plus R reader to the DVD+R and the same for the other. Both types have about the same limits. So it doesnt really matter which one you choice but you need the corrosponding writer of the DVD you have

I think DVD+R is the better format for DVD's, it's got better error correction.

like beta and vhs, they're simply different formats, created with backing from different corporations. most modern dvd players are compatible with both formats, but, in pure numbers, there are more players out there that are dvd-r compatible than there are dvd+r compatible. with regard to picture, audio quality, etc., there would be no practically discernable advantage/disadvantage to either.

the new hd dvds coming out should be significant leaps in quality.
