I live in Boston, MA

Before i start spewing my opinion on everyone let me first say it really depends on the age of the child. I mean if its an infant 0-6 mos and its really hot, i think its understandable, although i would prefer at least a onsie on the child.

Anything older than that is ridiculous, And I personally think its nasty, You wouldn't want your younger childed to come out in their underwear. You wouldn't do it yourself. so why do it to your children? the least you can do is put a onsie on and maybe some sandals, its the same thing just a little more covered. I mean really how expensive are infant and toddler clothing, even if you don't have the $ its costs nothing to grab a pair of shorts from target or Wal-Mart. That MAY run you a whole 5 dollars. Its worth it to have some clothes on your baby.

I feel your children are a reflection of you. You have to clothe them and keep then nourished. I'd buy my children clothes WAY before I'd buy myself something, so at least they look presentable when ever we go out somewhere. Even if i don't!

Need more specifics about what you are calling a public place (and the age of the child - my answer is based on my 2 year old). I would have him in just a diaper at a public pool, beach or maybe at the park if he's getting too hot but not in a store or a restaurant. Just use your common sense when deciding how to dress your child - would you walk around in a bikini in a grocery store?

I think it's perfectly fine, providing the sun isn't too bright, for the safety of baby's skin. Sometimes it's so hot that everybody wants to be naked....at least the babies should be allowed to. I live in Ontario, Canada. I've brought her out in just a diaper, though usually I do cover her up a bit when we go out in public. Usually more because i'm concerned about her getting a sun burn than because I am concerned about other people's opinions.

I live in North Carolina and I take my 8 month old out in just her diaper all the time. She gets really hot even wearing just a tank top. People always tell me thats the way to go and they wish they could strip down like that.
I personally don't care what other people think, if my baby is happy then I'm happy.

my daughter has a weak immune system due to maconeum at birth nothing anyone could do to prevent this and has been in the hospital from a possible heat stroke so i dont dress her much but my 2 year old and 5 and 8 year olds are fully dressed when we get out of bed of a morning

I am a father of two who lives in Edmond, Oklahoma. I don't think that wearing nothing but a diaper is appropiate. You wouldn't let your six, ten or twelve year old run around in their underwear. Why is it then okay for your infant or toddler? It makes people uncomfortable and makes the parents look like they were just too lazy to dress their child.

Babies are people too, and when they go somewhere, no matter where it is, then yes they should have clothes on, at least a onesie. No matter where we go, i always put an outfit on my 5 month old daughter, Now i'm just waiting for her sandles to fit her too. they should be dressed. If your home having a bbq in the backyard and it's a really hot day, then yes i can see letting them hang in their diaper, but only for a boy. I know they're babies but if it's a girl, her breasts should be covered.

I guess it is. If it's not, I don't know why it should be. Babies are innocent...there's nothing sexual about their bodies. I let my boys run around in diapers all the time (at home). I wouldn't have a problem taking them out in public like that, but I live in the south, and they'd get sunburned/too hot.

My opinion..when I see a baby out in public with only a diaper on it makes me think the parents are poor or that they didn't spend enough time to get their kid dressed. Throw on a pair of shorts or something. How long does that take?

I live in San Diego, CA, and do not have AC in our house since we're so close to the ocean, but there are a couple weeks out of the year that it's too hot for my 1 year old to wear clothes without sweating like crazy. He'll run around the house without clothes on. But as soon as we get ready to go out, he's got clothes on. If we're just in our front yard, then he doesn't need clothes, but he does wear shoes. I also agree that when you are out in public a child not wearing clothes looks like the parents don't have enough money. But in certain circumstances, i can understand it. If your child spits up all over himself and you don't have an extra outfit...what are you supposed to do?
