If she insists that you take it, I don't think its wrong. She wants to give it to you. You said no. She insisted. That is it.

Sounds like a good MIL so far. I do things for mine, and she offer money in return. I try to give it back, only for her to say take it. I try twice, third time I keep it of course. There is nothing wrong in taking the money.
If the table was turn around. She done something, I would offer money to her. Even she refuse it, I will try to keep offering. Then she turns it down flat, and say nothing else. I give it to her, when she is not looking.

Hard one. It would perhaps be better all round that you did not accept payment for these deeds. it is perhaps better to say that while it is a nice offer you didnt do it for the money. And if she insists still say no and suggest she discuss it with her son. That puts you out of the firing line later if things go wrong that they had to pay you for the help received. Also discuss this with your partner that you dont mind helping but feel awkward re the offer but are scared of offending her. It is up to him to discuss this with his mother. good luck

If you want to stay on good terms with your mother-in-law, don't except money/or expect money from her. Tell her this "...if you like, you can treat us to dinner one night"....and leave it at that. That will make you the best son-in-law in the world to her and you make points with your wife!!! And...she'll feel like she's doing something nice for you. If she insists....find some way to leave it at the house...like in her car or in the kitchen. Don't take her money, honey!

You really shouldn't take the money unless you become a slave to your motherinlaw. By the same token she may have all the money she needs and is trying to help you guys out. It's good of you to help her out and I'm sure that your wife really appreciates it. That is worth alot more than the money!

Turn it down once. If she insists, ACCEPT it. She probably can afford it and she knows that you need it.

She sounds like a good MIL. Mine was so bad I would only want to marry an orphan next time.
