When my husband and I was dating and he announced our engagement in 2003,His mother did not approve our engagement and gave us a big lecture how we should've waited as a marriage was a huge committment(We was in our early 20's and both had jobs).The day we finally got married and my husband asked my MIL "did you ever thought the day would come" his mother said"No"..She had learned to respect our privacy and space...it took 4 years..
I would have to say is the most annoying is the calls for my husband to do their errans such as babysitting when they are leaving for the night,helping them with their yard or a techinical problem.This has been a ongoing process and it is driving me nuts.We have to completly stop everything we are doing just to accomidate my sister in law or mother in law or they will whine.When we need help,It is a different story.
I believe having inlaws can hinder your relationship with your spouse but if they respect your desicion, I am sure they will learn to adapt and accept your spouse

Most of the in-laws want to b decision makers yet a marriage is essentially between husband en wife.

Wish i knew the answer to that question... my step mother-in-law does it i believe out of jealousy and trying to be accepted, which isn't working very well for it only confirms the reason why most of the family feel the way they do!!

I think it has nothing to do with their son-in-law or daughter-in-law personally...its just that they never think that theres anyone out there that is absolutly perfect in their minds for their child to be with. And usually over time they come around.

In my personal relationship with my sister-in-law I would have to take the jealous or lame answer. Either she is jealous of me which I find completely annoying because what's their to be jealous of. Or she is lame, wants all the attention and will mimic other people who get the attention to get it which makes them look like idiots. So the things they do people see which makes them not like them and then they try harder to get people to notice them and like them which makes them freak out and get into fights.... ugh... now I feel like Kicking the **** out of my sister-in-law

they probably don't like their spouses being with his/her family and are trying to tare their family apart.

thats how it is my sister s try and meddle in my brothers life too!! maybe their jealous
