A house is a structure as the other poster put it, but a home is the people that live in the house and make it a safe and pleasant place to be. You've heard quotes such as "Keep the home fires burning" (during the wars years) and the oldie but goodie "Home is where the heart is." You can live in a beautiful home, but if you have no one to love and share it with then it's just a plain house no matter how fancy it is. Poor or rich, no children or a dozen children, adults have the control to make any place a good home.

A home can be anywhere you live -- your home may be a mobile home, or a motor home, or an igloo. For some, home can be an abandoned warehouse on Main Street in Anywhere, USA. You can call an apartment your home. As they say, "home is where the heart is".

However, a house is a physical structure with walls and a roof and a door. An apartment would not be considered your "house", etc.

I can be at HOME any where I am with my family regardless of the physical structure because that is the environment that gives me security and happiness and is a place of refuge. Home is where the heart is to coin a phrase. My house, however, is a structure where my family spends most of its secure time together that offers shelter. :)

According to Dictionary.com, a house:
A structure serving as a dwelling for one or more persons, especially for a family.
A household or family.
Something, such as a burrow or shell, that serves as a shelter or habitation for a wild animal.

Also, as per the same source, a home: A dwelling place together with the family or social unit that occupies it; a household.

An environment offering security and happiness.
A valued place regarded as a refuge or place of origin.

Good luck - Remember, there's no place like home.

Well. A house is just a building but a home is where someone lives. So you could say that when it's vacant, it's a house but when someone moves in and can use that address, it's a home. Also, putting your own styling and furnishing touches makes it personal and therefore a home.

It is the people living inside the house that make it a home. Your home is your refuge from the outside world. It is where you practice your traditions, celebrate your holidays, love your family and gain your strength. It is where you establish your own rules, it is where you can truly be yourself.
A house is just a piece of real estate otherwise.

Houses are everywhere!... In any burg, on any street. There they are. We drive past them, walk past them. Admire them even, saying "Oh, that's a nice house." And every one of those houses have driveways that will never give you the same feeling as the feeling as the one you get when you pull into you own driveway,-
" I'm home!!!"
