Is there a movement out there to dissolve the monarchy?

There is no serious movement at the moment but the prospect of somebody as morally reprehensible as Prince Charles becoming king after his mother's death will lead to more discussion about consigning this relic of feudalism to the dustbin and becoming a grown up democracy that has the courage to elect its own head of state.

I salute the Brits for taking everything seriously, right from monarchy to human rights. They have a thousand year old monarchy like none else in the world and the brits have since 20 generations sworn loyalty to thier monarchs. There is this commitment that they have kept as also thier monarchy deserves all recognition. A brave lot who ruled more than half the world for more than 3 centuries, and they did also rule the hearts of people and brought about just developments around wherever they were. Unlike other countries who dont even have a history thats more than 200 years old. but thier citizens and denizens are so full of themselves and thier so called democratic values that they cant see reason or logic beyond the end of thier nose, No sir, The British are a serious lot and thier Monarchy is the best in the world, Democracy for the British is a serious business too besides who will teach the Brits democracy when they have taught the world the ABC of democracy besides can you even match thier experience? LOL

The monarchy is considered a little archaic by some. The top and bottom of it is that our democratic processes have evolved around an existing hierarchy and rather than suffer too much of a revolution, we've simply adapted democratic processes to include the Monarch rather than exclude him/her. Traditions die hard sometimes, and the monarchy is an example of one which has been absorbed quite easily. Our Queen now pays taxes and is accountable to government just like the rest of us. She does still have the power to dissolve parliament, however.

PS. I advise to you revision of the use of apostrophes.

I was in London a short while ago and saw the Trooping The Colour ceremony (Queen Elizabeth's Official Birthday celebration). I could hardly make my way to Horse guards Parade for the thousands and thousands of foreign tourists clamoring for a glimpse of our royal family. Yes it is archaic but most Brits are thankful that they have a long history. The only things above a couple of centuries old in America and Australia are the land, American Indians and Aborigines!!!

I do not agree with the monarchy but your question is not the best. You see, the Queen of england has no real power at all. She is merely a tourist attraction. All the powers of the state are delegated to the Prime Minister and his government. The royal family brings in hundreds of millions of pounds a year in tourism. How much tourism does George Bush generate? Bollocks all.

Queen Elizabeth 2 is a fantastic asset to the country and since becoming queen has acted in a very 'royal' manner despite all the problems other members of the family have created.
I have duel nationality, British and Canadian, BUT if wimpy Prince Charles should become king I would be ashamed to use my British passport.

They are Britain's greatest tourist attraction and bring many more dollars into the country than they cost. The Yanks have Disneyland the Brit's have the Royals.

In Australia we're still considered to be under the British monarchy, but it really doesn't have any effect on our politics and day-to-day running of the country. I guess it's the same in the UK...

We still have the Queen in Canada too. She is part of our tradition. Besides I am not so sure a monarch couldn't do a better job then some of these morons that we vote in.
