As Sherlock Holmes puts it, It is elementary my dear Watson, Matter is classified into 3 kinds on the basis of physical state:Solids, Liquids, and Gases. Although i feel a separate category of Plasma and gel state should be present as substances classified as plasma and gel do not adhere to the classification of either a solid or a liquid or a gas. On the basis of physical properties matter is classified into Metal, Non Metals and Metalloids. And finally on the basis of chemical composition and properties Elements compunds and Mixtures.
