Check out the "why doesn't drink spill on aircraft" thread. There are some seriously thick people around. Why offer an answer to someones question if you blatantly don't have a clue what you are talking about.

It seems that most people think they know everything. They may know just enough about something to claim they know something about that subject but they simply don't know quite as much as they think they do. Most people simply just can't bring themselves to say these three words, "I don't know!"

I don't believe its for points. What do points mean, anyway? You don't get anything for them! If people really wanted to earn points wouldn't they try for lots of best answers?
You get some really rude posts here and I think thats got a lot to do with the anonymity; you can't say what you feel like in a group because you'd cause offense face to face. Some people get that "hee hee look how clever I am" kick.
Theres also a bunch dedicated to winding people up and seeing how far they can push.
But bottom line is I guess we all just think we're right. People give their opinion because they really believe what they are saying; not everyone can tell the difference between an opinion and a fact.

I think a lot of people are just doing it for the points.

Many wish to contribute but have nothing more to add to the answers already given, but having taken the time to think about it want to join in somehow.

I'd like to suggest that Yahoo have a ' I concur' option in the answers section, perhaps worth a point rather than 2 and with it's own daily limit. If someone has already given 'your answer' then just hit the 'concur' button and move on.

We could still vote on the best answer at the end but it would keep the 'answers' less abused!

I agree, and have wanted to ask the same question, as I go through the list of Questions available some of the answers are just unreal, stupidity is not the word here, some do it for the satisfaction of seeing there name posted behind every question, even if it's just a simple "blah" posted, it also gives them the additional points , which most of us try to respond with a logical answer to gain the points ,it is much quicker to just blurt out simple remarks, then to have to actually think about the question at hand and come up with a response. , when sites are opened like this with no MODERATORS to control what's being posted, or how it's posted,, people take advantage of it, and just haven't learned how to grow up yet.

I believe some are doing it for the various reasons stated here, points etc. but there may be something deeper going on. My view is that this medium, the internet, gives people who are cut off and disenfranchised from real life a way to be heard on an equal footing which the rest of their lives does not afford them. Although I fear in the internet we have yet another medium that has failed to realize its potential for good, it has been and will continue to be a democratizer. Instead of broken bits of clay pots, people now weigh in with a hastily written, often ill considered electronic response.

Not knowing something obviously doesn't necessarily mean a person is thick. However, I do agree that it's important for us to check info as thoroughly as possible. That's why I usually only answer the questions that require an opinion rather than a "fact". Research takes time and time is money!

Too many questions are being answered by kids with nothing to do or somebody else just trying to rack up points. Then again, look at some of the ridiculous questions being asked here. I was always taught the only stupid question is the one not asked, but who ever came up with that saying obviously never read some of the questions posted on this sight!

The immediacy of the Internet is your answer. In a matter of seconds, and anonymously, anyone with access to the Internet can fire off a response to any question.
You also take one thing for granted which may not be true: there are those who don't have a clue what you are talking about, but there are also those who don't have a clue that they DON'T know what you're talking about.

they are probably bored and dont realize the points on this thing are pretty useless. You dont get anything for them except a way to keep track of how often you answer. It says the points are a way to tell who answers a lot of questions well and is informed, but you could just answer every question with "i dont know" and still earn points. And some people just think they are funny.

Who is to say that answers given are "ill informed" if a person is answering from their own perspective? If the question asked has only one clear and concise answer then that is another story. Just because someone's opinion differs from yours does not mean that yours is correct and theirs is uninformed or incorrect.
