Other ways are using the mobile company web site of the phone of the receiver of the message.
So if you are using Orange for example go to their site:

you can send 25 texts per day for free I think and have the replies sent straight to your own mobile.

bt have a site that allows you to send emails & text messages you just register and you get free ones aswell

if u have an e mail id in yahoo you can go to yahoo messenger
and log in.u will see a mobile picture(tiny)under the taskbar click on it a box appears asking u to enter the phone number.enter it and u can enter your message and click send and it is gone for
