lowe fuel light come on chivy and gas gage go down

That gauge works on a resistance/read system. It sounds to me as if there is a bad connection between the gauge and the insending unit in the tank. Go to where the "pipes and wires" come out of the tank and see if you have a loose connection(most likely) then follow wire on into the cab, or call a mechanic.

It seems to me that something is wrong with the fuel system. Start at the gas tank and see if you have gas. If you do, check for leaks. Follow the gas line from the tank to the engine checking for leaks.
If everything is right with the gas line, check the carb. You may need someone to take your carb off and clean it. That will help your mileage too.
The Fuel Pump may need to be replaced. Have a mechanic test it.

Isn,t that how it is supposed to work? When the fuel guage goes down the low fuel light is supposed to come on or is it just me?
