Are you asking why do people lie?
I believe that the saying about the greatest fear is fear itself applies here. If a person is afraid to expose themselves (truth), fears the consequences of telling the real truth, is frightened of being judged and/or rejected, and perhaps wishes to control a person, situation or outcome.. sometimes they lie. Also, one may think that the truth will hurt another, in addition unfortunately some people are ill and can no longer tell truth from lies. This is so sad!! Soon and very soon i believe the barriers and challenges to telling the truth will come down. OH HAPPY DAY!!!

Sometimes it's easier to tell someone a lie than the truth. As they say, the truth can hurt. A lie can sometimes keep a person from getting into trouble.

Some people do it because they don't want to hurt the other person's feelings. What we call little "white lies" are said for these reasons. Then there are those people who lie about everything. They can be very insecure and have a need for people to see them as being better than they actually are.

Are you asking as if they are replying to a statement?
If so there have been so many times where people have found out that the things they were told may not have been the whole truth, or a complete fabrication. So now they will say it's a lie untill it is proven.

People lie because
1) they are insecure
2) they are scared to see the outcome of the truth
3) they dont want to hurt others feeling
4) its a pattern and lifestyle for them
Once you lie, and you start to tell more lies, you become a liar.
One thing I cant stand is when somebody lies to me.

They think it is easier to lie than to tell the truth. A lie just leads to another, then another, then another. It's better to say the truth to start with.

because you know... most of the time: truth hurts. (that is why the frank people in our school are sometimes infamous) its either you keep your silence or you lie. we always say that we hate liars but you will also hate the most frank person you will meet. especially the pessimists.( they always see the bad in you and they do not have second thoughts saying it in your face). you would think its cool but it really is not.
