yeah...

There are movies about love being made all of the time. After awhile, they all begin to look the same. However, once in awhile, one is made that truly stands out. THE WAY WE WERE is such a film.

This film, mixing love and politics, finds two individuals (Barbra Striesand and Robert Redford) who meet in college, but years pass before a romance blooms. She is an political activist, he's bored by politics. She's stern and serious, he's easygoing and laid-back. Although they love each other deeply, their differences begin to tear them apart.

As far as romantic tearjerkers go, they don't get much better than this. Both Striesand and Redford are perfectly cast and their characters are ones in which viewers will grow to love and care about. Many viewers will also appreciate the realistic ending.

This is a beautiful film.

Yes, I enjoyed this movie very much.

I want to focus on an aspect of the movie that so far people have not written about. Barbara Streisand played a Jewish woman (and of course, she really is Jewish) and Robert Redford played a Christian man (and I suppose he is Christian in real life). This aspect is important because towards the end of the movie Barbara says to Robert something about not fitting in with his style, not being his type and I think this has to do with the cultural aspect of Barbara being Jewish.

yes, and i saw it whn i had just grad. from college and my boyfriend of two years had just ended our relationship. i was heartbroken. we never got back together-and in reality that happens a lot- the viewer knows the odds of the two main actors getting back together is improbable, because he has married and has a child- it is obvious that some lingering feelings exist for barbara streisand, as we hope we are remembered in a positive way by those men or women who ended our relationship. we cry at the end, because so many of us can in some way identify with the situation. even tho we may not have grown up during that era.
