In terms of music, please support your favorite artists and get music legally.
See why you should get music legally here, and I encourage you to browse through the website's links:
http://www.whatsthedownload.com/whats_the_controversy/who_pays/index.aspx
Also, on filesharing systems the quality of each song is oftentimes usually compromised because it's copied or shared (Notice that sometimes a song skips, is corrupted, etc.). What's worse, you can get nasty computer viruses and spyware from these shared files!
There are legal ways of getting music that don't cost a lot either. I subscribe to Yahoo Music Unlimited and it's awesome (it only costs about $5/month)! I have access to probably a million legal, great quality music. Check that out, along with the website above.
Personally, I like to support the artists that I like so that they can further their career. I wouldn't want to steal their music that they've put time and effort into.

My husband put me onto the SOULSEEK site. This allows you to download music from other peoples computer files that they place onto it . The likes of MP3's , Jpeg's etc etc ... There is the normal downloading of the software for it , but otherwise it's all self explanatory . Check it out as I was in the same boat as you ... searching for FREE sites is no more for this little black duck ... woo hoo !!!

Illegally - yes : LimeWire, BitTorrent, etc.
Legally - no (if you find any site that lets you download music/videos both free AND legally, they're probably scams)

limewire, emule, ares, soulseek, bearshare lite, and bittorrent are all i know. even yahoo will work. most of them are illegal though, and carry serious viruses. this question has to be the most repeated question to date.

I used to use Kazaa but didn't like the ads (apparently, there's an illegal "lite" version).
