Take it to the police and if no one claims it, then you can have it. Why don't you restore our faith in human nature and hand it in.
Buy your own camera for your use.

You should make some effort to return it. I wouldnt give it to the bus company, but i would let them know that you have it in case anyone asks about it (tell them you've given it to the police, cos you wont get it back from the bus company). You could also try the local police station - if it isnt claimed after a month then you get it back anyway to keep, and dont have the guilt you would get if you just kept it. Not soon enough for your holiday i know, but its more honest. Its difficult if there are no identifying features. The other thing is, do you get the same bus, same time every day? You could ask around on the bus if you are feeling brave - some one could prove it was theirs by telling you what photos are on it.
I had the same situation, I found an ipod. Unfortunatly, the owner hadnt put his contact details on it, and hadnt registered it with apple. Its at the police station now, but I will get it back next week.

How about both? Leave a message with the bus company saying that you have found a camera and are willing to return it but also say that you are going on holidays and will be back in a week or two if someone needs to contact you. Then take the camera with you on holliday, take some pictures and print them out, delete them from the memory card and if someone claims the camera at least you got your holiday snaps, if not then you have a clear conscience. Either way its win win.

Being that you found the camera on the bus on your way to work probably means that you ride that same bus everyday. If so you may eventually hear someone talking about how they lost their camera or someone saying that someone they know lost the camera. At that moment tell them that you found the camera and return it to the person that lost it. If not then keep the camera because if you give it to the bus company someone there might keep the camera for themselves and there is still no way of knowing if the person will ever get the camera back.

Go to the Police, NOT the bus company. The Police will make a note of the serial number and leave it with you in case it is claimed. Then you take it on holiday and use it. If the owner turns up, give it back, but keep the pictures.
Take it to the bus company and it will just end up in someone else's hands!!

Get in touch with the bus company but say that you can't drop it off to their lost property office as you found it as you were leaving for your holidays. Get yourself a new memory card (they're not expensive) to keep your pictures on, then return the camera to the lost property office when you return. They will take your name and address and the camera will be returned to you if unclaimed after 3 months. But if the pictures look like they may be the owner's holiday pictures, wouldn't it be better that they have the camera for the rest of their holiday... Your call... Your conscience...

I know the camera would be convenient for your upcoming holiday but I bet the person who left it at the bus must feel bad.
I would hand the camera to the bus company, in the hopes that the person who left the camera would reclaim it.
Try to place yourself in the shoes of the person who left the expensive camera in the bus , and you would decide clearly on this matter.

Yeah I'd say keep it. If you return it to the bus company I'm sure whoever works in the 'Lost & Found' department will end up keeping it. Keep it and enjoy it. you deserve it, god left it there for you! Just the fact that you had a conscience, and felt guilty enough to ask this question means you are a good person. Don't feel bad, and enjoy your holiday... I know I need one!! ; )

Once upon a time I would have said keep it but when I went on holiday last year I put my camera on the side to wash my hands and the next minute it had been taken. It was very upsetting because there were photos of my children on there (at Disneyland) and was a once in a lifetime trip. I wouldn't wish that feeling on anybody because memories can't be replaced.

I would hand it in to the bus company. Remember that there are ethical concerns. You can't blame humans for forgetting things. Those people who left the camera must be old or in a hurry. They didn't left it for you of course. so your best bet is to take it to the bus company.
