You don't state what kind. Manufacturing, Retail, etc.
If retail, there are four basic functions.
Merchandising
Advertising
Organization
Display
Briefly, merchandising requires a flexible plan, planned sales each month, your beginning inventory, planned inventory each month, planning out of seasonal merchandise, planning into new season merchandise, calculating turnover on inventory so that you will always have some idea of your investment needed in inventory, Controlling inventory so as to minimize mark downs. Determine needed capitol, buying merchandise, establishing credit, pricing goods at a competitive price, payment of invoices on time, (discounts are very important), recognizing best sellers and timely reordering, recognizing slow movers and taking markdowns to clear, and more.
Advertising, a flexible plan as a percentage of planned sales, choose the best media to reach your customer base, and more.
Organization, hiring and training personnel, and more.
Display, recognizing your hot items and placing these in the "hot spot" of your store, maintaining cleanliness, the same as you would for guests in your home, being certain that new merchandise is on display and exposed to customers., and more.
Maintaining detailed accounting, inventory control, expenses, controlling sales expense, your salary, fixed expenses and discretionary spending, and more. Maintain a profit.
Remember: The right merchandise, at the right price, at the right time!
