Although it's possible to be good in both, you'll generally have a harder time in one.

This is because they each use different sides of the brain. You've probably heard the "left brain, right brain" thing, so you know people have a natural tendency to use one side more then the other. If they use the side that handles English more, they'll be better in English, and struggle in Math. This works the other way around too. Fortunately, it's entirely possible to be good at both as long as you excercise each side of you brain.

I'm great at English, but my math is disgustingly bad, so poor my little son can usually get an answer quicker than me!!!

Could be true - but not in every case, maybe it's some scientific way that the brain works...

Math and English use different brain functions. Some people are gifted in both and others in neither and most are better in one than the other. In my teaching experience in languages thestudents that are gifted in music are also gifted in English & other languages.

that's just an old racist saying, because "supposedly" the Asians are smarter in math, but learn other languages longer, especially English. Though many people's educational gifts and weaknesses show that, it's not as true as you think.

I have always excelled in math, but have had a rotten time with grammar. Spelling I am good at , but getting those commas, periods, and new sentences has always been a chore.
Hope this helps
