Ebay is the wild west of buying and selling. I've bought and sold on Ebay. For the most part, it's been a good experience, but I've been screwed twice, both on small auctions. Some categories like cars, are rife with fraud

For all their talk of buyer protection programs, etc., Ebay provides virtually no protection for the buyer. If you're ever the victim of auction fraud, good luck trying to get them to pay you. There are so many rules and so much of a run around, that the protection is worthless.

So if you are a buyer, really look at the feedback for that seller. Also always use a credit card. If using Paypal, use your credit card to pay thru PayPal. That way if you get cheated, you can always resort to the chargeback process of your credit card.

Sellers too need to be careful. I've heard of numerous schemes where the buyer sends a cashier's check or money order that turns out to be bogus. Again, you won't be getting any relief from Ebay there either.

The unofficial motto for Ebay is "Buyer or Seller - BEWARE!"

GOOD

1. For testing a market, without paying hundreds
2. Reaching a million potential buyers
3. Making some quick money/selling household stuff/getting rid of junk.
4. Business practice.
5. Advertising, getting exposure

BAD

1. High fees
2. Paypal is forced down your throat
3. Cut throat market.
4. Too many Nigerian, Asian, Chinese sellers flooding the market.
5. Prices reach no where near what some items are worth.
6. Rules are petty.
7. Good rules aren't enforced.
8. Listings get removed for unjust reasons.
9. Customer service is the biggest pile of **** there is.
10. Too many non-paying buyers
11. Shill bidding happens too often.

It used to be good, but not anymore

I love Ebay.. I am a buyer and a seller both, and have never been disappointed in my sales or purchases. A good tip.. Always check a sellers feedback score. A few negatives is understandable, a lot of them is a clear sign to look for a different seller for the item that you want..

It's an amazing advertising tool if you have something for sale, but then like any other kind of sale you have to protect yourself.
The same applies if you're buying too.

Where else could you go and browse through such a variety of goods?

Ebay is amazing... it provides both buyers and sellers alike a new environment in which to sell in...plus it is in the privacy of their own home.

I'd have to say good - it's a bit like swap shop - UK childrens programme from years ago. I've bought loads of great bargains and sold stuff that i would've just threw away. It's addictive though lol.
