It was something of a "cult classic" for the youth of that generation. Kind of like Mystic Pizza, 16 Candles, American Graffiti, Grease, etc.

Only because it lauched actor like Winona Rider, Ethan Hawke, Ben Stiller, Stephen Zahn, Janene Garafalo, Renee Zellweger and Swoosie Kurtz and established actor, Joe Don Baker from "Walking Tall". I saw it years ago, and thought because of the hype, and it was heavily promoted, that it would be something really great. I was sorely disappointed.

Yes, but I definitely like the way the TV series "Stargate SG-1" expanded on the story. Richard Dean Anderson's O'Neill ("with two L's") and Michael Shanks' Daniel are far superior to the film versions, in my opinion.
