I myself live in Detroit... It's rough. But I'd advise keeping out of Los Angeles (High gang-related violence); Camden, New Jersey (Highest Murder Rate in U.S.), and Washington D.C. (Another high murder rate). To date, Detroit tops the list for highest crime rate as far as auto theft, breaking and entering, and crimes of that nature. Gary, Indiana is another place you don't want to find yourself in. Crime is spurred by poverty, so just watch out in those areas!

I'm from Canada & was visiting in L.A.

Ended up in Watts at dusk somehow & was Truly Fearing-for-my-Life!

Grabbed a quick bite @ a McDonald's that had Steel Bars between the Cashiers & Customers...It's a complete Ghetto there...Graffiti Everywhere!...Drug Dealers on every corner! When I left the Restaurant is when it all started.

I was followed by 2 vehicles, Glass-Tinted so you couldn't see the occupants! They tried shoving me off the road several times...but I luckily escaped...I finally abandoned the rental car I was driving & ran down a ravine...hiding in brush for hours before returning to the car.

The windows were smashed...car stero ripped out...but, it was driveable. And, I was gone in a Flash!!!

Later, back into safer neighbourhoods of L.A. - I heard from several people that the Cops very rarely drive thru Watts...It's a very violent community that is entirely ruled by Drugs & Violence!...Do Not Ever Go There!!!

Lake Elsinore California! I remember all the meth labs made it smell so bad when I had to drive through the Ortega Highway-74 to commute from Dana Point to Temecula.
Someone else mentioned the city of St Louis Missouri which I agree that many spots in St Louis are pretty run down and full of crime but St Louis does has nice places to go&see but I live outside the city limits in St Louis County which is nice!

Best place? I'd say San Francisco or Seattle.

Worst place? I'd say that obscene stretch of landscape between Newark New Jersey and Manhattan. Woof.

Second worst place? Detroit.

Third worst place? Cleveland.

I vote for Porterville and Lake Elsinore. I go through Porterville to get to a nice little place in the mountains and refuse to stop. Everyone has to hold it until we get to Springville.

Lake Elsinore, last time I went, has nothing worth stopping for. Even the "lake" is, what, 6 feet deep at it's fullest? That's just a large puddle!

there is no worst place in the United States. there are places that bum you out for their narrow-minded (which is anti-American) thinking, but even these places have their charm, if you understand that you're going to get a strong dose of whatever they feel in the community you visit - west coast/east coast/ midwest/heartland.
just expect strong conviction in the area you're in, because that is America. And that's what makes America special.

Porterville, California. The best place to be in Porterville is the center because you are always leaving it.

It's hot...as in easily over 100 degrees for a major part of the year. There is nothing to do. It has one of the highest pregnancy rates for teens in the WORLD!!!

It's a hole and should be aborted.

Little Rock, Arkansas was the single ugliest city I have ever seen in the US. And this comment has nothing to do with Clinton. The city was just hideous.
