SAP pays well, but not in demand like it was. Java programming is best combination of pay and demand.
Any web based programming is good right now. PHP a big up and comer.
If you program know SQL. It is a must know for programming and HTML, XLS, java script, JSP are essentials of web programming no matter what primary language you use. Knowing several gives you better chances of being hired.

New software looks always interesting. Maybe you could check SAP netweaver ?

i hear a lot about powerbuilder , delphi ... java , sql , but php is all i know .. so i guess php is good .. for web .. http://www.keeptell.com/soft/28/software-development.html
ajax is also great .. xml .. dhtml . . xhtml .. combine them and you will be in demand..
