I am amazed at the lack of respect that is frequently shown for the askers on this site, whether the asker is someone famous or not. The demonstration of lack of respect, I think, is indicative of why so many things have gone downhill. People used to respect one another and their beliefs, even if they didn't agree.

I would encourage all Yahoo! Answerers to join me (since I'm guilty of it too) in re-evaluating the answers we put forth...especially to questions that are serious questions, no matter how silly we think they may be, or how much we disagree with others. This IS a forum where everyone can express their own knowledge and beliefs, but I think we can all be expected to do it respectfully.

Let me answer with a set of questions of my own, who wasn't and why not? Shouldn't the simplest of questions like this be those we consider the most vital? With a flippant attitude we rush off to live our lives minute minute with out rhyme or reason for the future consequences that affect us not. It is such flippancy that caused the trouble in the first place and is an infection passed from the adult to the youth through instant gratification. Why do we wonder where people get the idea the world revolves around them when we raise them in an environment that proves this to be true? Summarizing, I feel that while not to impressive of a question I still find it laudable that someone is asking it.

However, to answer your second part, I found some of the answers to range from religious drivel to a complete and utter wandering from the ultimate question where one must give in to several assumtions the least of which is the assumtion that man will ultimately destroy itself if nothing changes, to state that we will survive. The question given that assumption was "HOW" not "if".

My personal answer however was indicative of my view on the answers of "have Faith.." which I personally find morally reprehensible. I despise people who put everything in to God's hands and then lets go of control of his or her own life blaming all bad things on the Boogie man devil or the like. God helps those who help themselves. Gratification through little effort has caused a scarey trend in the human race toward extreme selective laziness. The only gumption one has is to step forward only if it is found out that something will personally effect that one person.
Some of the answers reflected this as well. In the short I must say shocking.

The question was pretty good but I was more impressed with the fact Stephen Hawking asked any question here.
I'm wondering will he read all his answers and if he does what he'll think of some of them. I didn't read all the answers but I'm sure he got the inevitable 'no idea but thanks for the 2 points' answers. I noticed someone adressed him as 'pal' and someone else said 'by breathing...Duh!!!' .

I was impressed with the question. It is of urgent revelance to to all.

I was shocked at all the nonsensical drivel that people responded with. I was aware that the masses tend to be ignorant, but I have always given humans a little more credit than that.

I am impressed with everything about Hawking. That there were many frivolous answers and a few serious on here is about par. That is why we need leaders, not poll readers and liars.

Simple but Very good question indeed, to the point. mankind will decease in a 100 years if we keep up in destroying the environment. Once you reach the threshold, you cannot go back. Mother nature only gave us one chance and thats all we have. Screw it up and "The End".

I know that the question seems impressive, but many seem to be missing the point of it. Is our existence really about us in the first place? Yes, mankind WILL survive...well into eternity BUT, it is WHO will survive WHERE that is the real question.

Quite impressed, an opportunity to have the public converse with scholars. The ability to brainstorm solutions to problems we have in our world.

It obviously took some thought to come up with that one, and I was stunned when I saw who posed the question, this was a real honor to participate in and I hope my answer was helpful.
