Slugging percentage takes the number of bases per hit divided by at bats so singles count as 1, doubles 2, triples 3, home runs 4. Add them all up and divide by at bats.

Example player has 5 singles, 5 doubles, 1 triple and 3 home runs, and 45 at bats. 5+10+3+12= 30/45 = .667 Slugging Percentage.

It's your total bases (single=1, double=2, triple=3, and HR=4) divided by your total number of at bats.

Simply put, it's Total Bases divided by At Bats.

That makes sense, thats how you can get 1.something or 2.something. do you suppose if someone had one atbat, hit a hr. and never had an ab again, he would keep his 4.000 slg%?
