I think one should look at the following things:
- is it school-work - typed and clean paper is enough
Going to a client:
- depends on the client (some are the typed and clean paper is enough)
- if you have a business card from that client it will give you an indication of the type - or a brochure from his company

Put or draw a border around your work. It makes your project stand out and frames the poster nicely.
