I have looked at agencies on the internet and they always charge a fee of around £60. I am suspicious, as I beleive that agencies should make money when the client gets a job. Where and who should I contact in order to get a extras work on film or t.v. sets?

Ok Im a film extra...

Contact the acting union equity http://www.equity.org.uk/

AND ASK TO BUY A BOOK CALLED 'CONTACTS'

Lists legit extra agencies in the UK.

No agency is perfect and can guarantee work, its best to have many.

Some take it out of your first job, one has a higher commission, so its up front, some free. There is no pattern on waht work they get you...

Look up Mad dog, Casting collective (This one is the best and opening books end of summer), 20/20 productions David Agnecy, G2 (Galloways 2), Dolly Brooke, Screenlight, Another Face, Ray Knights

Id avoid Lees People bit up their own *** ie dont want you calling in on tuesday but if you got jobs on Monday from other agents they get narked, dont want you calleing them, no work for ages but when they do get you work if someoen gets there first they get narked... get the picture? Unless they sorted that attiude.

Dont repliy to those you see in newspapers most are a cone uless its a known agency

Contact details should be in contacs... Also check out your library for the 'white pages' like the yellow pages for the film industry

Get a diary, mobile phone, carry a pen,

List all measurements, acting experience (dont worry if none), uniforms, if willing to do nude, sporting, work and other skills divided into beginner intermediate and advanced...

Ie rollerblading forward withotu ending up on *** = beginner, extream half pipe stunts = advanced.

Don't say what you can't do... ie swim or ride a horse. You will have to do it

Try writing to a few television companies they will tell you who they use.You are right you should never have to pay an upfront fee as the agency does make money when they get their client work, chances are if they are charging you an up front fee they don't have any work.I hear of model agencys doing the same thing but again the genuine agencys never charge a fee either.I hope that helps

It depends on the type of work and your ability to get people interested. In music videos, they get people to be 'extras' by offering them the chance to be in a video (and possibly a catered lunch).

Contact local churches where you have influence, and, depending on the number of people you need, place an ad in a local paper where you are filming. State up front that there is no pay, but a fun day of being in front of the camera and how they will help a small time film maker to get a film made.

I think there is an upfront fee for work on TV, but I could be wrong.

For ordinary work, try this agency, is says it is free recruitment and it is well known in my line of work.
