Of course, they deserve 50% chances each...
* Both won 3 WC, but Italy wins 2 match out of 3 (1970 Mexico semi-final 4-3, 1978 Argentina stage2 draw 0-0, 1982 Spain final 3-1). The last match was a friendly on 1 March 06, Italy won 4-1 and many call Klinsmann to resign, but the actual Germany is a whole different team in willingness and organization.
* Germany is the host country and will get great support by crowd
* Italian coach Lippi is a tactical master and is so far more experienced than Klinsmann.
* Germany was impressive in all match played. They won against a great team as Argentina, and this boosts their morale. Their fitness seems lower than when starting the tournament. They should be more tired having played extra-times and penalty kicks.
* Italy has failed USA and Australia match, and haven't got a real test match yet, but they always give their best effort when playing against great teams. Their fit seems growing. Lippi has send in the field all his 21 movement players in the played match.
I'm waiting for a great match, as in 70 (same result is better ;-)), but those match often will start with a defensive attitude. If both teams will share the control of the match, in this stage often the goal(s) are scored by free kicks and corners, but Italy is more unpredictable, playing with fast break attacks, than Germany, who will try with wing side runs and crosses to Klose. Germany is better in long distance shooting, but Lippi perfectly knows this issue and yesterday Buffon had a special long shoots training session.
So I'll go with a square prevision: Italy wins 3-0

The Germans are playing with something they've never used before: emotion. Oh, they've had emotion, but they've always tried to control it and never used it as a tool or a tactic until now.
People may give Jurgen Klinsmann grief about living in the US and, worse yet, *learning* how to coach from the Americans, but he's brought something new to the team. In the past, it was always tacticians, talent, and control. Now it's about feel and style.
I saw a TV interview with Klinsmann before the World Cup and the thing he said he got the most out of working with Bruce Arena and other US coaches is that nearly all the American coaches and players come up through the US college system. Players in traditional football countries are signed as teenagers and grow into men under strict control. The American coaches are educated men and the players are also educated and very individualistic.
Klinsmann said he saw how US coaches have to learn how to handle individual players to get the most out of them. Instead of only trying to dictate to his German team, he's able to deal with them on a human level, not just professional, and is able to use both styles. Consequently (my opinion hereon) the players seem to be playing for him, Klinsmann, and each other, rather than the uniform. How else do you explain how Klinsmann managed to deal with the Kahn/Lehman situation?
I think we're about to see the best games since the first round games in groups A and C. Both will be lively affairs with several regulation time goals, and Germany will win today, France tomorrow.

Sure, It's going to be Germany because it's their confidence and youth vigour that spurs them on.
Though in italy we have one of the best keeper- Buffon, Best Centre Back- Cannavaro and Best Defensive Midfielder- Gattuso in this tournament but that still doesn't count against a German team that has everything going for them.
It's too close too call but Germany's the team
