figure out how you learn and make it fun. check out a book called "the learning revolution" and an author called Tony Buzan. He wrote many books relating to the mind and improving our mental prowess. I think the key is to have fun while learning. If its boring make it fun. If you know how you learn, then you will know how to teach yourself to retain the information. we all learn differently hence the sources I've given you.

good luck!!
