They have to play 90minutes of game plus extra time about 1/2 hours. If you ask me, I'll be pretty darn tired by the time it's over. I think it is good to taste the goalie's efficiency since they're the least players who sweat during the games :D
Anyway, its way better than toss a coin.. hehehehe kidding!

No, it's probably the worst way of deciding a match. You could get a team playing negative, defensive football for all the game then win on the shootout. Better would be the 'Golden Goal' so the first team to score after 90 mins wins. Alternatively have the penalty shoot out before the game so we know who'd win before the game is up, extra time allowed of course.

no. but then again, if even after 30 extra minutes, no one scores, there has to be SOME way to decide. and why not a penalty shoot.
but i do think its based somewhat on luck....the goalie is damn lucky if he can stop a penalty kick...however, if he can stop 3, that just means hes amazing (ricardo).

I do not agree as the best is another 90 mins replay game on the next available day.Penalty shootout is just pure luck.If you are lucky you can score all goals if not you can even missed though you are a good striker.

It is not fair but someone must win.
And penalties are the most exciting part of eliminated games.
Every team has nearly equal chance and ope to surprises.

no i think is like a cheating since you don't do anything during the game and just 'cause a stinking' penalty kick you win a better team losses

i hate it more than anything else....because argentina lost....but coming back to the question at hand..what else could you do?? you cannot expect the players to go on playing like they were'nt human.
I think even 120 min of game is too much...but to lose on penelties..
aahh... I think they should have best of three of something like that in knockout stages...i dunno bout fifa but atleast we'll get to watch more classic matches..but again that's just me...hahahaha yeah definately better than tossing coins to settle it.
