I'm going to assume that you misspelled both terms.

Ethnocentrism literally means "to be centered in the culture." The term was used by William Graham Sumner in his famous text, "Folkways." It refers to judging the practices of other cultures in terms of our own habits, values, and mores. For example, a couple of years ago, an American youth was "caned" in Indonesia for breaking the law. Most Americans saw it as either child abuse or "cruel and unusual punishment." But, to Indonesians, it was standard punishment for the offense.

Cultural relativism is just the opposite. Cultural relativists try to understand practices within the culture in which they occur. For example, the Koran teaches Islamic men to have "a wife or two, or if you can afford them, three or four." Americans, who believe that monogamy is the only correct form of marriage see the taking of several wives as "wrong." Cultural relativists see the practice as being in accordance with the religion.

Today, some scholars wonder if cultural relativism should be somewhat selective. For example, is spousal abuse all right, regardless of the culture. What about cannibalism? Or murder?

Believe it or not, such practices were, and in some cases still are, practiced routinely in other cultures. And, of course, the people of those cultures see nothing wrong with them.

ethnocentrism is when you think a particular culture is more superior than others. For instance, if you think that american culture is more superior and sophisticated than, let's say Filipino culture, then that's ethnocentrism for you in simple terms. Cultural Relativism, on the other hand, is seeing different cultures as correct in their own entirety. There is no inferior or superior culture.

Do you mean you want to know the difference between ethnocentrism and cultural relativity??

Maybe you should do your own homework.
