Even though I'm not American, I guess I know much about American history and culture to answer this simple question.

The Fourth of July, AKA Independence Day, is the day when the Founding Fathers of America (Jefferson, Washington, etc) and the freedom loving Americans officially claimed their Independence from the United Kingdom of Great Britain. To be exact, It is July 4th, 1776, during the reign of King George III, aka Mad King George.

One of the interesting things about Mad King George is that he suffered from a hereditary disease from "keeping the royal lineage pure" that gave him deep purple urine. By this time Mad King George was completely insane and Great Britain was ruled by another king, George IV. George III never knew he lost the American colonies, and is known as "the king who lost the American colonies".

"Nothing of importance never happened today." - King George III, July 4th, 1776.
