why do cartoonists of anime characters draw such big, huge eyes that covers like two-thirds of the face?

The eyes makes the cartoon look unique and it has helped draw manga/anime fans from all around the world. Large eyes also show emotion and it just makes this style of animation more fun to draw. Their mouths do move when they talk and the animators are not lazy. It's hard to have mouths move exactly to the words and animators do the best they can. It is simply a cartoon and cartoons aren't completely realistic and that's how the Japanese made it.

not all anime artist do that it depend on the kind of character they want to depict such as for evil characters most of their eyes are slim and sharp but the good characters usually have the big bright eyes to show their personality

Japanese people like big eyes because they are sort of fed up with small eyes- like the eyes that they have. They actually like Caucasian looking anime characters that's why anime cartoon characters have big eyes, blonde hair, etc. This is true because this is what my fellow Japanese cartoonist friends tell me.

The eyes of a person are supposed to be the window to their soul so i guess that the eyes play a major role in character design for anime artists to depict what kind of person the character is and style.

If you meant Japanese anime cartoons ,then the world is changing so is the cartoons industry but aren't they cute ? I like them just the way it is. The huge eyes actually gives the extra touch without us realising it . That is what makes the cartoons characters look handsome and beautiful. Like i said it is all in the eyes to give the characters life and feelings.

Granted I give you an answer that was written in a magizine (can't remember the name so don't ask) many many years ago: The Japenese are impressed with how large American eyes look. Their most popular plastic surgery is eye enlarging (were they basically pull the eye lids apart so the eyes show more). Again it is from a magizine article and they could be totally wrong....

since anime characters are not actors....cartoonist must find a way to let their character act in such a way that it would feed up emotions to the viewers and having a big-eyed character does the job effectively......
